President's Message

Dear Team

Christmas is just around the corner it is great to see our town transform into festive mode, I absolutely love the decorations and lights along the streets signaling this season of cheer!  Christmas is all about giving, founded by a loving God giving His only Son Jesus, the little babe in a manger, for the benefit and redemption of mankind.

What I like about Rotary is its commitment to giving and to Rotary humanity and the world matters.  We as Oamaru Rotarians are very good at giving of ourselves from our own time, skills and resources, and in involving others in our endeavours to support Rotary's six areas of focus for the benefit of local and international communities.  This year our club has so far raised $23,225 which has been applied to the following needs and causes:
$1,800 for purchase of palliative care bed for the Observatory Care Village
$1,000 support for a youth competing in National Championships in martial arts.
$3,418 for purchase of an interactive whiteboard for North Otago Literacy
$600 school prize giving sponsorships for WBHS, WGHS, and SKC
$500 to the Oamaru Combined Churches foodbank/relief efforts
$2,500 in support of the OnYaBike campaign to encourage children to get on their bike to school
$200 to the St Pats Scouts in support of recruitment
$1,500 for midwifery assistance and education in Mongolia
$6,000 to the Rotary Foundation focusing on Global Polio Eradication
Our Club also budgeted a sum of $2,000 towards tertiary education sponsorships, which is currently being organised. There are also other funding applications that are currently being considered.

Our Christmas function on Wed 13th Dec at Elderslie will be our last meeting of the year, and so far we have around 39 members and guests registered.  All welcome to wear something Christmassy and we can all look forward to a fun evening!  To those unable to make it... you will be missed, and we wish you all a safe, healthy, restful and happy holidays!

Rotary Survey
The results of the Club Survey were recently emailed to all members.  35% of members responded and provided a good insight on where we are as a club, areas of strength and opportunities to carry our group forward into the new year.  Please take time to review the document and email me with any further comments you may have.

I would like to thank you all for your ongoing commitment and support of Rotary and for doing your part in making a difference in this world.

Enjoy Christmas with family and friends and best wishes for 2018!

Robert

Set The Fountain Alight

Fundraising efforts are all go with each member of the Rotary Club of Oamaru fundraising $250 towards this worthy goal. Our efforts so far have been successful with proceeds from last months Chocolate Wheel contributing to this project. Keep up the good work!

For more than 20 years, it’s been a dry fountain, pipes rusted, water off. Now James Craig’s great gift is coming alive again. As it’s never been before. Because we’re going to set it alight. For the first time ever, this 100 year old treasure will have a night life and night light.

You can help us make it happen. Oamaru Rotary is committed to fund the fountain’s new LED lighting system. We think it’s a fantastic community project and we hope you do too.
