President's Message

Onwards and upwards Oamaru Rotarians!

A big thank you to Michael Sandri and John Crombie for a very inspiring talk on their journey towards the establishment of the annual A2O footrace events.  Michael's previous participation in a similar event overseas culminated in him dreaming about bringing  the event to NZ.  This very quickly turned into reality on account of the high level of interest and support he received locally and internationally.  Registrations for the 2018 event is now full and already the 2019 event is filling up fast.  The event will be a great highlight for the Waitaki District and for NZ.  Any proceeds from this endeavour will be going back to the Waitaki Community.  Well done Michael and John, and please let us know if we can be of help in this regard.

Craig Fountain

The Projects Committee commenced their planning for our club's involvement in the Craig Fountain restoration project in partnership with our local Council.   They will be sharing details of their plan with us shortly.  I encourage all members to please support this worthwhile endeavour in any way possible.

Club Committees

I would like to encourage our various committees to come together and formulate one or two community service or project ideas you would like to achieve this Rotary year.   Our directors have compiled a list of ideas which I will email to all members to help kick-start this process.  Members may pick and choose from this list or come up with ideas of their own that are consistent with our strategic plan and Rotary areas of focus.

Membership welfare

Recently I have had the opportunity to connect with a few of our members by telephone.  Many have expressed appreciation for the contact and a desire for this to occur more often.  We now have a Welfare/Social Committee to champion and help enhance this aspect of our club culture, but I would also encourage all members to maintain connections and look out for one another.  Also If any of our members have a particular need please let us know (if appropriate) so we can respond with support if required in a timely manner.

Wed 9th August meeting will be an "out and about" activity, as many as could make it to the Whitestone City tour would be great and hopefully we will have a fun and interesting evening.  Partner and family members welcome.  So please register for this event ASAP (if not already) so we can finalise numbers for the dinner segment at the Criterion.

Lastly I request your support for our upcoming Public Event on 23rd August.  We have been very fortunate to secure Dr Costello as guest speaker, please invite people you know who would benefit from this and register them for the event.  It is also open for direct registration via our Facebook page.  Only 70 seats available!

Best regards and thank you all!

Robert
