Greetings, all....no cliches about how time flies, but, great Scott, it does!!! May already, by golly, and the shortest day is closing fast - in both senses. So let’s press on. Four things this time -  our next meeting, the wine tasting, the Rotary International Auction date and a fundraising idea for Hospice from Ele Ludemann.

Next meeting is at the Galleon on Wednesday, the 8th of May. If you’re coming, please register by mid-day Tuesday at the latest so we can let Tania and Dave know what to order. The meal will be $18 and the guest speaker is our own Sven Thelning, talking about his recent professional development trip to Tasmania with other young Rotarians. Sven (and the other teams) gave short presentations at the Conference here at the end of April. They were fascinating and Sven’s will go into more detail on Wednesday. Don’t miss it!

The wines tasting’s been confirmed for the second meeting in May, on the 22nd. The plan is to have it at Poshtel and the night will include a tour of some  of the themed rooms. If you haven’t seen them, they are really well done. It’s a great destination and with great Waitaki Valley wines to go with it, a good night’s in store for sure. Watch this space for details and think about people you’d like to invite as guests!

The same goes for our annual Rotary International Auction which will be on the 19th of June. Basically, we all need to bring three things - an item to be auctioned, some cash to bid with and a friend to share the fun. So, start thinking about who you’d like to invite as a guest and what to bring along on June 19, with Changeover night following on the 3rd of July. Our first meeting in June will be all about setting up for Bookarama - details to come. The same goes for Ele’s fundraising idea, which is to hold a public debate about the Euthanasia Bill now back in Parliament. The plan is to invite supporters, including David Seymour and opponents and invite everyobne along, admission by donation. At this stage we’re confirming speakers (2 definite) and venues and as soon as that’s sorted, there’ll be more info.

Right now, all you need to do is register for Wednesday at the Galleon and enjoy the evening!!!!!!!!!

Regards - (Almost ex) President Jim
